During the three days of the trade show, the assistants were able to analyze topics such as new platforms, commercial and technological challenges and opportunities offered by new technologies, mobility and convergence, video as a new business opportunity, advertising in new media and content creation.
He also said that the challenge is not only from the point of view of the technological innovation, also contents and advertising will have to face a change of direction. Communication must be more personal since the new communication technologies will enable the user to be more and more interconnected.
Parallel to this topic, Juan Pablo Rocha, President of JWT Colombia, affirms that in this imminent technological change, the important thing to face is to re-define what is advertising, who are the consumers, which are their desires and their needs. This must be the first step to work surrounded by the new technological platforms.
On the same way, Patricia Tomasini, Commercial Manager of product and contents of ESDT, Division of Broadband and Internet of Claxon, makes sure that the birth of new screens of exhibition does not mean that the traditional media is going to end. The point is to find and to identify the moments and the possibilities offered by each media or new screen.
Nevertheless, the topic that generated most interest was the debate about the transition to the digital television in Colombia in which all the different digital platforms participated. In this context, several authorities of the region exposed their positions regarding the economic, financial, technological, social and cultural impact of the implementation of the Digital Television in the country.
Mauricio Samudio, Manager of TDT of the CNTV of Colombia, commented that the decision will be taken from different perspectives; infrastructure of the network, recipient devices and production systems. Right now the University of Antioquia is working on a study that takes into account all this perspectives.
On the other side, Eladio Gutiérrez, Director of the Association for the Impulse of the TDT (Digital Terrestrial Television) mentioned that each of the standards has different possibilities. The system implemented by the United States offers a high definition television, but it leaves aside other benefits and imposes other problems because it is an open norm controlled by only one country.
The Japanese system offers the possibility of high definition television and mobility, but it represents big difficulties such as the price of the decoders and the recipient devices. Also, the trademarks of the technology used for the Japanese standard would not be known and supplying facilities are not assured.
It is hoped that the decision about the standard to apply in Colombia should be taken in May, reason why the CNTV is doing a study that aims to identify the consumption tendencies of the Colombians, their openness to adapt to a new technology and their economic capability to adapt to this change.
This is a general Picture of what happened in ANDINA LINK 2008 CARTAGENA where for the fourteen time, Latin America was summoned around the analysis of convergence. Great business contacts, commercial plans, wide knowledge are some of the benefits that the assistants could appreciate and take with them to their own countries. Once again the trade show was a success.
